Write into the Woods

Heritage, Cultural & Tourism Writer

There are things lurking in the woods.
As you follow the path, you come across a nice woman sitting on a fallen tree.
Don’t worry, she’s very friendly.

I’m Jenny, a freelance writer and editor for the cultural, heritage and tourism sectors, based in North Somerset, near Bristol.

Whatever the size of your project, if you just need a hand with something or a regular writer/editor, and whether you’re part of a business, charity, organisation or running something special, I would love to help.

I know. It’s strange what you can find in the woods.

A woman who hates having a photo taken, with long red hair, wearing glasses, sitting in front of a bookcase.
"Working with Jenny is just brilliant. She works quickly and efficiently. Communication was easy and the end result great, which gives me a lot of confidence when I send the report to the end client. Thanks Jenny, I am sure we’ll work together again in the near future."

My Favourite Projects (So Far)

Editing and proofreading research reports on tourism and visitor numbers for a research company, working with high streets and visitor attractions, including the National Trust.
I don’t consider myself a numbers person, but the figures on these reports were fascinating, especially coming out of the pandemic, as the economy continued to change.

Writing the marketing copy to spread awareness of and educate about the restoration of a local listed signals box on an old railway line.
As part of the local authority doing the work, my social media posts had the most engagement the organisation had ever seen, and it was a joy to get creative about how the community could use the restored signal box.
It would have been nice if the restoration team would have told me about putting the mannequin in hi-vis in the window before I turned up – scared the life out of me!

Writing and editing the stories of people included in an award-winning photography exhibition, the Power of Stories. Depending on the situation, I would edit the story already written or I would use the photo subject’s own words from notes to write their story. I’m always careful in these cases to use a person’s own words, so it’s their voice coming through.
I’m incredibly proud to have been a part of this project. The stories told are incredibly important but also fascinating.

How I Can Help You

What do I write? Mostly anything you need.

I can write and/or edit:

  • Blog posts and articles
  • How to guides
  • Handbooks/mini ebooks
  • Exhibition signage and materials
  • Web pages, landing pages and online content
  • Event information
  • General marketing and promotional materials

I can also:

  • Edit existing copy
  • Edit AI-written copy and humanise it
  • Proofread
  • Help with generating content ideas.

Everything I create is written by a human (which I am, last time I checked), with zero AI (AI has been trained on stolen material. I do not steal from my fellow creatives).

“Jenny epitomises organisation and efficiency. She did a fantastic job of proofreading our website and ensuring everything was consistent and on brand. We’d recommend her to anyone.”

How Does It Work?

If you’re interested, send me an email (Hello at writeintothewoods dot com) and get in touch for a chat and quote.

Then, if you’re happy to go ahead, I’ll send over a contract agreement (or you send over yours) along with an invoice for a deposit of an agreed sum (usually 50%).

I’ll do the work, send it back to you, you can request up to two rounds of revisions, and then I’ll send you the final work – edited and proofread – along with my invoice.

You pay the invoice, copy and paste the words, job’s a good ‘un!

If the words you require are ongoing, of if you like my words and want more, we can work together on a regular basis, which works out cheaper for you!

“Jenny recently undertook some editing on a project I was working on and I couldn't have been happier with the work she did. We discussed beforehand the best way for her to deliver the editing for me and settled on a way that was clear and convenient. The editing was thorough and delivered efficiently in a way that it was easy to track and understand the changes. I wouldn't hesitate to work with Jenny again and would wholeheartedly recommend her.”

I charge project rates, so my quote will depend on what you’d like, the type of project and organisation.

It’s always worth a chat!

If you’ve got a project in mind, get in touch and I can give you a quote.

“Jenny has written blog posts for me which has been a great timesaver. She came up with great ideas for each post and immediately got the tone of the blog right. They read very well and portray exactly the image I wanted to go for.”
