Writer, storyteller and assistant for heritage, cultural and arts individuals and organisations.
Helping to spread the love of the wonderful, creative things you do.
Welcome to the part of the woods filled with cairns, crumbling stone walls and, word has it, a ghost or two.
I’m Jenny, a writer and assistant, with a fascination of creativity, sites from the past, people and the stories they have to tell.

My Favourite Projects (So Far)
Editing and proofreading research reports on tourism and visitor numbers for a research company, working with high streets and visitor attractions, including the National Trust.
I don’t consider myself a numbers person, but the figures on these reports were fascinating, especially coming out of the pandemic, as the economy continued to change.
Writing the marketing copy to spread awareness of and educate about the restoration of a local listed signals box on an old railway line.
As part of the local authority doing the work, my social media posts had the most engagement the organisation had ever seen, and it was a joy to get creative about how the community could use the restored signal box.
It would have been nice if the restoration team would have told me about putting the mannequin in hi-vis in the window before I turned up – scared the life out of me!
Writing and editing the stories of people included in an award-winning photography exhibition, the Power of Stories. Depending on the piece, I would edit the story already written or I would use the photo subject’s own words from notes to write their story. I’m always careful in these cases to use a person’s own words, so it’s their voice coming through.
I’m incredibly proud to have been a part of this project. The stories told are incredibly important and so interesting.
How much does it cost?
I pride myself on being flexible, especially if you have a really interesting project I’d love to be a part of!
As a general guide, though, my rates are:
For ad-hoc work: £35 an hour
Book regular retainers of up to ten hours a month with me: £30 an hour
How It Works?
If you’re interested, get in touch for a chat and quote.
Then, if you’re happy to go ahead, I’ll send over a contract agreement (or you send over yours) along with an invoice for a deposit of an agreed sum (usually 50%).
The final invoice will be with you on completion of the work.
You pay the invoice, job’s a good ‘un!
Question?
What's your AI Policy?
Excellent question!
Everything I write and create is the work of a human (which I am, last time I checked).
I am against generative AI.
It has been trained on stolen materials and I do not steal from my fellow creatives.
However, I do understand that other people use generative AI, despite it speeding up the destruction of the planet and your own brain cells.
I am happy to edit the words AI has spat out for you and make them better.
Will you come work in our office?
That’s very kind, but no thank you.
I have a nasty habit of having panic attacks in offices and find I can do a quicker, better job from the comfort of my own home.
Plus, it will save you money in travel expenses.
However, if your site, building or project is interesting, I would love to visit!
Are you full-time freelance?
Nope. I have so many hours available for freelance work a month. Grab them while you can!
I try to keep my freelance hours to three days a week, but I’m also very flexible depending on the situation.
Do you offer trials?
Abso-rutley-tutely-lutely!
I offer paid trials.
Get in touch and let’s see what kind of a trial would fit the work you’d like done.
Does our historic site have to be haunted for you to work with us?
Nope! I’m interested in all types of culture, arts and historic sites, particularly where there are interesting people and their stories to share.
However, if your site is haunted, I want to know EVERYTHING.
What are the rules of these woods?
- For Frodo!
Kindness, empathy, honesty and transparency. (There’s good in this world and it’s worth fighting for.)
- We are the weirdos, mister.
Embrace the creativity.
- Where we’re going, we don’t need dickheads.
No greedy, unempathetic scumbags.
- I am a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar.
Freedom and independence.
Weirdly, my question isn't listed here?
That’s not really a question, but I love it.
